Senior Web Developer at Reckless Agency

Reckless are on the lookout for a talented web developer to join the team in the heart of Chester.

We work on a variety of different projects, from large custom ecommerce builds for multinationals, to mobile apps and high traffic booking systems. We’re fortunate to work with various pieces of tech, but our core stack consists of Laravel, Vue and Bootstrap. We also have plenty of projects in Drupal, Statamic and WordPress.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on new technologies and a number of exciting projects. The role involves getting stuck into new builds and maintaining existing client projects.

Reporting to the Technical Director as part of the Development team you will have responsibility over your own work to ensure it meets deadlines and quality standards.

This is a remote role, although you may occasionally need to visit the office for company updates and client meetings (although this is rare). Our offices are in Chester City Centre.

Skills - Essential

• At least 5 years commercial experience in the sector, ideally within a busy agency.
• Strong experience in a mainstream PHP MVC framework. We use Laravel primarily.
• Experience of frontend technologies and workflows such as Vue and Webpack.
• Personable with good communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Git.
• An understanding of Cloud architecture and how to develop for scale, ideally with AWS experience.
• A ‘get stuck in’ attitude.

Skills - Desirable

• Experience of a CMS or Content Management Framework such as Drupal, Statamic, or WordPress (we use all 3).
• We have dedicated frontend developers for frontend work, but the understanding of the process is important, and there will be some infrequent frontend work required. Some experience here would be ideal.
• Experience of other frontend frameworks such as React.
• An understanding of SEO and best practice.
• An understanding of Core Web Vitals and Page Experience.
• Mobile app development experience is a bonus, although not necessary.
• Experience of integrating with ‘enterprise’ systems such as ERPs (Netsuite,Dynamics, etc).
• Experience of integrating with various CRMs (HubSpot, etc).
• Experience writing unit or feature tests.

Your key responsibilities

Take a scope document and bring it to life in the chosen technology. No micromanaging, you’ll be expected to own the project and deliver it on time on budget (with the help of our project management, and account management teams, and with support from other developers). Implement smaller projects either standalone or within existing projects. For example, implementing Klarna into a customer ecommerce experience.

Support the team and clients with retainer work.

Put forward ideas for new technology or ways to improve existing and future projects.

Work with our other teams, especially digital marketing and design, to ensure their solutions are viable.

Work with our SEO team to implement SEO best practices across projects, and to ensure their requirements are met on new builds. Although this isn’t a client-facing role directly, you will be expected to join calls and chat to clients on Slack from time to time. Get stuck in. Sometimes you’ll be asked to do some frontend work when scheduling is tight, although this isn’t common.

Salary: £40,000.00-£58,000.00 per year
